Alpine skiing and Snowboarding can be found all around the area. Killington is the place for experienced snow riders, and Pico is the place for those not as experienced or wishing for a quiet time.
There is a Health Center at the Pico Ski Resort on Rt 4 just west of Sherburne Pass. This Health Center has weights, aerobics, pool, and massage. Call for information at 773 _____.
Summer in Pittsfield area (Killington, Rutland, Rochester and Woodstock) offers a wide variety of opportunities such as horseback riding, tennis, golf, swimming, auctions, antiquing, good dining. The Mountain Times weekly newspaper (free) tells you what's happening.
At Killington--Killington has a complete summer activity program. Gondola rides, rock climbing, water parks, BMX bike park, mountain biking, alpine slides and more. Just give them a call at 422 3333 for information.
Swimming--Pools can be found at various hotels and resorts. However, the local thing to do is find a pond or swimming hole. There is a community pond half way down the road towards town. Three good swimming holes can be found along the White River along Route 107 headed towards Bethel. One is at the first bridge and the second just a bit further down the road...before Gaysville. A third is by the tennis courts off Route 100 just past the 107/100 junction and the Alyson's restaurant on the right.
Tennis--north on Route 100 just beyond the 107/100 junction are two all weather tennis courts. If you come to the sharp turn over the White River, you've gone too far. In addition to this local court, tennis can be found at Killington Resort, the Cortina Inn, The Summit Lodge, the Woodstock Inn, and at a few places in Rutland.
Golf--There are three nearby public courses.
Horseback riding-In Pittsfield there is a new horseback and pony riding facility. Look in the Yellow Pages for their number. Also, there may be horses at Chittenden Inn and possibly in Rochester. Inquire also at the Woodstock Inn in Woodstock VT.
Kayaking - For those wanting some white water fun, there are a few hidden rivers that in the spring or after a hard rain have enough water in them for whitewater kayaking.
Fly Fishing - it is good in most of the streams and brooks in the area.
